Lessons are available in person at the Asheville Music School on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, or virtually via Zoom.
Lessons are open to students of all ages. Parents are welcome and encouraged to sit in and/or participate in their child’s lesson.
Teaching Philosophy
Music is far more than learning notes and technique. It is a practice of attention, listening, creativity, and personal growth.
Body Dialogue is at the heart of my teaching. My lessons integrate musicianship with principles of Alexander Technique, somatic awareness, breath, and nervous system regulation to help students develop greater ease, confidence, presence, and freedom in their playing. I help students discover an embodied approach that feels natural, expressive, and sustainable.
Many students find that lessons become about much more than learning an instrument. They become a space to overcome performance anxiety, cultivate creativity, deepen self-awareness, and reconnect with the joy of making music. Students often joke that their lessons feel like "part music lesson, part therapy session."
I believe every student has a unique musical voice. Rather than simply teaching people to reproduce music, I aim to help them become thoughtful, creative musicians who can listen deeply, improvise confidently, solve problems independently, and express something authentic.
I work especially well with students who are passionate about music and driven by genuine curiosity. Whether someone is preparing for the stage, writing their first song, learning their first chords, or rediscovering music later in life, my goal is to help them build the technical skills, confidence, and artistic freedom to make music a meaningful part of their lives.
